Adelaide Eye Care has extensive experience fitting lenses for keratoconus, dry eye, and astigmatism, including scleral and rigid gas-permeable options that standard practices may not offer.

Astigmatism: Toric lenses are the standard solution; scleral or hybrid lenses may suit higher or irregular astigmatism.
Keratoconus: Rigid gas-permeable and scleral lenses vault the irregular corneal surface for clarity soft lenses cannot always achieve.
Dry eye: Certain lens materials and daily replacement schedules can reduce discomfort. Your optometrist can trial options suited to your tear film.

Tips for Getting the Most From Your Prescribed Contact Lenses

Whether you are new to contact lenses or a long-time wearer, small habits make a significant difference to comfort, clarity, and eye health.Always wash and dry your hands thoroughly before handling lenses. Even minor traces of soap, lotion, or moisture can irritate the eye or compromise lens integrity. This single step prevents the majority of lens-related complications.

Follow your replacement schedule strictly. Wearing lenses beyond their intended period, even occasionally, increases the risk of protein build-up, reduced oxygen flow, and infection. Daily lenses end at the day's close; monthlies end at 30 days regardless of how often you wear them.

Never rinse lenses or cases with tap water. Tap water can harbour microorganisms linked to serious corneal infections. Use only fresh, approved contact lens solution.

If your eyes feel dry by mid-afternoon, the issue may be your lens material rather than your environment. Ask your optometrist whether a silicone hydrogel lens or a more frequent replacement schedule would help. Many wearers find a simple switch resolves discomfort they had accepted as normal.

Store cases correctly. Rinse the case with solution after each use, leave it face-down on a clean tissue to air dry, and replace it every one to three months.
Have a pair of current spectacles. There will be days when your eyes need a rest, and wearing lenses through irritation or illness can slow recovery.
